Final Design
For this project, a team of three other students and I had to design a solution to an everyday problem, that we as students face. We developed an automatic plant feeder and fertilizer dispenser. We researched the problem, current solutions, and created a design that not only allowed the user to set the amount of water but also the amount of liquid fertilizer to be dispensed for a wide range of plants.
ProtoTyping
During the prototyping phase of this project, I learned the importance of GD&T, tolerance stackup, and how to use them to ensure that parts fit together correctly. Additionally, I learnt the importance of designing for manufacturability, and how to optimize parts for CNC machining & watercutting. As well as many different CAD good practices, such as simple sketches and creating drawings for readability.
Manufacturing
Throughout this project I gained proficiency in manufacturing processes and applied them to design. We evaluated and selected processes optimized for high-volume production and identified materials that optimized performance for the intended application on our final design.
